G lobal Philadelphia - The Global Philadelphia Association was founded in 2010 by nine leading international organizations in Greater Philadelphia. It's purposes are: To assist - and to encourage interaction among - the many organizations and people who are engaged in international activity within the Greater Philadelphia Region; To promote the development of an international consciousness within the Region; and To enhance the Region’s global profile. GEM welcomes our new Youth Representatives - On a recent trip to Egypt, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said the "most impressive and most moving experience of engaging people was with young people who are really the initiators of driving change”
 To acknowledge the importance of youth in affecting change in today's world, the UN Department of Public Information has enacted several initiatives, including giving each NGO two Youth Representatives annually.

GEM awards Parveen Kassim with the Global Educator Award
During the second day of proceedings of the United Nations Teachers Conference on Human Rights, Parveen Kassim was awarded the Global Educator Award.
Throughout the course of the two day conference, teachers met and discuss ways to teach peace and human rights across cultural boundaries. These ideals have been at the core of Parveen's work as an educator in Pakistan. Read more about this year's award w inner and previous winners here.
