Children and Armed Conflict - Learn about the staggering impact of war on children. Armed conflict, more than anything else, has dramatically changed the lives of children. They become child soldiers and refugees, face gender-based violence, and become weapons of war. Their protection through human rights will also be addressed.

Global Water Crisis - More than one billion people lack access to a safe, sustainable supply of drinking water. Water related diseases are the leading cause of death ih the world today taking the lives of more than 14,000 people each day. Water is the resource of life and is more likely to be the source of global conflict in the 21st century than the conflict over oil.

Environmental Issues in the 21st Century - UN personnel will review major issues of global warming, energy, water, air, oceans, wildlife and health. The complexity of these issues is explored while looking at the national and international environmental impact.

Terrorism vs Democracy - A global counter-terrorism strategy was adopted by all 192 member states on September 8, 2006. This was the first time that all counties in the world agreed on a common approach to fight terrorism. This program will look at the global strategies and how they are working.

Understanding the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - In the Millennium Declaration in 2000, all member states of the UN committed themselves to achieving the MDGs to sustain development and eliminate poverty. UN personnel will review the eight goals and assess their progress as we now enter the 2nd half of this 15 year period.

UNICEF: Fighting for Children’s Rights - The rights of children is the central focus of the work of UNICEF. This focus is centered around the UN Convention on the Rights of Children. This program will emphasize the Convention on the Rights of the Child and will look specifically at UNICEF’s work with children and their right to survival and human development.
