Program Description: Globalization 101 begins with a short (2.5 minute) movie that provides a global perspective on the problems of the world. Globalization is then defined and presented within a historical context. Various facets of globalization (economic, technologic, cultural, political, environmental) are gone over. How we measure globalization and where it is taking us are presented. Students are engaged in a discussion of what they think globalization is and what it means for them—in terms of the importance of continuing their education, global competition, jobs, friends and opportunities.
Program Objectives:
- Understand the forces and dynamics of globalization
- Understand how globalization has already impacted their life and will continue to do so
- Engage in a discussion about what globalization is and what it means to their future
About the Presenter: Medard Gabel is a noted author and speaker who co-founded World Game Institute with Buckminster Fuller. Medard also co-founded Osearth. In conjunction with the Buckminster Fuller Institute, Medard created the Design Science lab which is a workshop for developing strategies to address the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Mr. Gabel has conducted workshops, consulted, and given lectures for over 400 corporations, colleges, universities, high schools, organizations, and governments throughout the world—including the U.S. Congress, United Nations, GM, IBM, and Motorola. Mr. Gabel has been designing, developing, and delivering experiential educational programs since 1970. He is currently the CEO of BigPictureSmallWorld and BigPicture Consulting, and is the author of six books on global problems, resources and strategies, the global energy.
