Videoconferences 2009-2010

Throughout most of GEM's history there has been the use of modern communication technology to help students get a better understanding of their interdependent world. Recent advances in videoconferencing have taken GEM programming to a new level.

GEM provides both IP and ISDN videoconferencing applications. Though GEM offers packaged videoconferencing programs, most of the programming done in schools is customized through brainstorming with teachers to fit the individual classroom situation.

GEM Videoconference Partnership with iEARN

GEM is now proud to offer membership to iEARN for an extra $150 when a school participates in a GEM videoconference. iEARN school memberships regularly run $280 per anum.

What is iEARN?

iEARN (International Education and Resource Network) is a non-profit organization made up of over 20,000 schools in more than 109 countries. iEARN empowers teachers and young people to work together online using the Internet and other new communications technologies. Approximately 750,000 - 1,000,000 students each day are engaged in collaborative project work worldwide.

Since 1988, iEARN has pioneered on-line school linkages to enable students to engage in meaningful educational projects with peers in their countries and around the world.

Why iEARN?

GEM has always wanted to include a substantive post activity to videoconferencing with a chat forum component.  In that regard GEM has now partnered with I-Earn, the world’s largest school network on the Internet to allow GEM schools to use I-Earn’s extensive discussion groups for, not only follow-up discussions with GEM presenters, but to broaden the outreach that you will have at your school to a world of viewpoints on a multitude of global issues for both teachers and students.  The entire I-Earn global community is there for you.

If your school subscribes to any of GEM’s videoconferences, for an additional $150 you will receive a year’s membership into I-Earn’s network.  This is a savings of  $130 from a separate I-Earn membership.  Just indicate your preference to include an I-Earn membership with your videoconference selection and we will establish it for you.

Visit I-Earn’s homepage at:  www.iearn.org.

Please contact GEM if you have any questions.

Onward to a better world through cooperation and partnerships.
